Turntable.fm Turntable.org Aprilclark: Turntable.fm has relaunched with involvement from its founder and a separate site, Turntable.org, is expected to launch in beta in April with a subscription fee
The blog post will cover what this new relaunch entails and how content will be different in the new turntable.fm website. This was announced by the ex-Sparklz member Turntable.fm himself on March 4th 2016.
The Turntable.fm website will be an open source platform powered by a unique volunteer community of programmers and designers, creating a platform that will create a new musical economy with creative control over the music they produce and how it is distributed to others as well as making direct connections with their fans.
The site will be a social music player for musicians with a non-commercial approach to facilitating direct interactions between artists and fans.
Turntable.fm is expected to launch with the following features:
“a music discovery platform where you can listen and discover music by your favorite artists or search for any artist, song, or genre (similar to Pandora) for one direct click access to the content you seek.
Songs will be available for streaming, downloading and hosting. Download of the original artist’s song and remixes is free, but the album art and other content will require a subscription”
Turntable.fm is expected to launch in April 2016 as just a test site with no need for a subscription. This was announced by Turntable.fm himself on March 3rd 2016.
Turntable.fm will be available at beta.turntable.fm
What kind of incentives are there?
“The benefit of becoming a Patron will be early access to the site, a voice in decision-making , first dibs at swag and the pride that comes with supporting the future of Turntable.fm.” and the following are to be included for a subscription fee:
“Subscribers get full access to Turntable.fm, including all features, analytics, and best of all, exclusive content from their favorite artists.”
In regards to further monetization strategies, this was stated on March 16th 2016: “We’re not planning on putting any ads on the site. We have discussed the possibility of putting a tip jar or asking people to pay what they think the content is worth, but we don’t want to be presumptuous and not get too far ahead of ourselves.”
What kind of content is provided?
“We plan to curate some awesome content around playlists, artist-made projects and exclusive demos we find on SoundCloud, as well as highlight all of your favorite music, news and hot takes from around the web. You can even submit a track, or tag a song you like with the #turntablefm hashtag to have it featured on the site.”
“The site is intended to be a way for artists to connect directly with their fans, whether through social media or through the turntable.fm player. The turntable.fm player will provide free access to music from all creators and offer listeners a way of supporting their favorite artists (and getting early access to remixes and other special content) while still exploring new music they enjoy. The site will also be a way for music lovers to discover new music they might like without having to rely on a playlist or search engine, and create mixes tailored around what they want to hear.”
Turntable.fm is currently only available as a beta version at http://beta.turntable.fm/.
What does the site do?
“The site is intended as an interactive site for musicians to connect directly with fans and provide them with direct access to their content. The site will also serve as a social media hub for musicians to interact with fans and provide new music that they enjoy. The site will provide artists with analytics to better understand the kind of music they should create, what their fanbase listens to, etc. In addition, there will be a marketplace for musicians to sell merch and other items directly from the site.”
“We plan for the site to be a place where both amateur and more established artists can share their content with others.
