Two Things That Employees Don’t Like About Their Jobs

The staff is the most important feature of a company. A well-functioning workforce can increase client happiness, generate a higher turnover, and will cause fewer internal problems in the company. On the other hand, if the staff is not happy at their workplace, they might not function optimally which can cause the company to lose valuable income. It can, therefore, be concluded that happy employees make a happy company.

If your company is not functioning well and is experiencing lots of internal problems, it might be time to revise the workplace you provide to your employees.

Find out what makes your staff unhappy on the work floor and determine how improvements can be made. This article will help guide you in finding the things your employees don’t like about their jobs and how they can be improved.

Scheduling Problems

Most companies still use an old fashion scheduling system where HR employees or planners schedule the employees by hand. They use a pen-and-paper system that is very prone to mistakes. With this system scheduling conflicts are bound to happen. The most common scheduling problems that occur are employees with children who are scheduled during school pick-up or drop-off, employees scheduled to work in their absence, and employees that have to come in because there is insufficient qualified staff on the work floor.

Furthermore, scheduling the old-fashioned way can also cause over-staffing or under-staffing. Both can cause a lot of money: over-staffing because unnecessary employees need to be paid and under-staffing because unhappy customers will leave. Scheduling problems can cause employees to feel unhappy and overworked. Luckily, there is an easy solution to this problem, namely using a timesheet software.

Timesheet software is very versatile. It contains all information about staff, such as worked hours, requested absence, as well as birthdays and anniversaries. HR staff can easily schedule shifts and employees can request to work a certain shift or request leave. Also, employees can easily access their schedule online and are immediately notified should there be any changes in the schedule. This makes it easier to avoid scheduling conflicts, as the system will notify a manager or HR employee when scheduling conflicts, overstaffing or understaffing occurs.

Not Offering Sufficient Benefits

To be happy at their workplace, employees should feel valued and heard. Undervalued employees will not speak up when they see problems in the company and tend to not work at full capacity. Unhappy employees that feel undervalued and unheard can be quite the hassle because they are likely to look for another job while leaving their unfinished tasks behind. This can put a lot of pressure on other employees, who have to do twice as much work if an employee suddenly leaves. This can cause a domino effect of unhappy and overworked employees.

The first thing you can do to make your employees feel comfortable and valued is to give them personal attention. Make sure that you speak with your employees and encourage them to (anonymously) speak up about things that the company could improve. Maybe they will come up with needs that you haven’t even thought about before, such as on-site daycare, a budget for courses, or more time off to finish their studies.

Besides these extras, there are lots of other things that you could offer your employees to make them happy, such as paid overtime, insurance, or small tokens of appreciation such as gifts and an extra day off for their birthday.
