Recreational marijuana is legal in New Mexico and this is what you should know

Marijuana is one of the few products in nature whose use stretches way back in history. There are reports that the plants were already being used actively for recreational purposes as far back as 3000 years ago. But despite this long history of use, it was only recently that marijuana for recreational purposes become legal in certain states including New Mexico. There are several places in the world where governments still don’t allow the use of marijuana. In this article, we will explore what the legalization of marijuana for recreational purposes in New Mexico means and how you can exploit that.

What the legalization entails

The legalization of marijuana use for recreational purposes was made possible by the Cannabis Regulation Act. Marijuana New Mexico can now be used freely. However, there are still certain details that are yet to be polished by regulators of the State. Personal use was legal as of June 29, 2021 after several rules on personal possession and distribution were finalized.

According to the new regulations, the possession of marijuana for recreational purposes is allowed for adults aged 21 years. Under this regulation, they are allowed to possess only under two ounces in their respective homes. They should also do their dealings indiscretion since the law instructs that marijuana possession should not be visible from a public place, otherwise you will be charged with a misdemeanor as be subjected to the consequences of breaking the law.

You may want to buy from the marijuana dispensary near you and start consuming there and then. But the law also prohibits smoking marijuana in public. There are efforts to issue licenses for designated public places where such smoking can occur but that has not been actualized yet. Therefore, ensure you are smoking your marijuana with discretion.

The law also allows users to grow marijuana in their homes. However, limits have been placed on this as well. You are only allowed to grow not more than 12 plants if you don’t have a permit. The idea here is that only those who have a permit to grow and sell marijuana can do so in large quantities. Otherwise, engaging in something approximating a business if you are not licensed to do so falls under the category of fourth-degree felonies.

Conclusion

It is important to consider the rules for marijuana possession, distribution, and use in New Mexico before you involve yourself with marijuana.
