From Kyiv to Global Brands: Dmitriy Makarov on Why Results Matter More Than Reach
In an era where marketing strategies often centre on clicks, views and traffic charts, Dmitriy Makarov offers a starkly different vision. Born in Kyiv and now operating internationally, Makarov built a thriving agency before turning 25. He outlined how a grounded, data-led approach combined with cross-cultural creativity is shaping the future of global marketing.
The early chapters of his journey were unconventional. While still in school, Makarov began working as an independent consultant, advising companies across several countries on digital strategy, social media advertising, and influencer engagement. “That was the stage when I operated as an independent consultant – essentially a contractor for dozens of companies across different countries,” he recalls. “I did everything myself: developed marketing strategies, ran ad campaigns on social media and search platforms, negotiated with influencers, and co-created campaigns with them.”
In 2017, he left school to focus on his agency full-time. Today, that company employs over 100 specialists and has collaborated with major international brands including BMW, Intel, NIVEA and Domino’s. One of its distinguishing features is a strong emphasis on large-scale influencer campaigns, an area where Makarov sees ongoing potential for brands to achieve meaningful, culturally resonant communication.
According to Dmitriy Makarov, influencer marketing today defines cultural tone. He believes, it enables authentic, trust-driven communication that traditional tools cannot match.
This shift toward authenticity is central to the agency’s approach. Campaigns are evaluated on measurable goals, not vague impressions. Makarov’s team has established a reputation for delivering campaigns with clear, guaranteed results. “In Ukraine, we built a reputation as an agency that delivers results – not just traffic. Our approach combines technology, creativity, and a deep understanding of the audience,” he explains. “We have worked with over 1,000 influencers and know how to evaluate who will actually drive results. Quite often, we even guarantee outcomes – offering budget refunds or bonus placements if KPIs are not met.”
Despite facing both a global pandemic and the war in Ukraine, the agency adapted rapidly – diversifying its client base and extending its operations into new regions including the U.S., Europe, Asia, and the MENA region. According to Dmitriy Makarov, the agency’s multilingual and multicultural team is a key competitive advantage, allowing the business to localise content effectively while maintaining strategic consistency.
Beyond campaigns and client wins, Makarov is keen to stress the importance of rigour. He advocates for a disciplined six-step framework:
- Identify the client’s need
- Analyse the market and competitors
- Develop the offer
- Align on KPIs
- Launch a test campaign
- Optimize and scale the results
“It matters to me that what I do has purpose and impact – not just for business, but for the people around me,” Dmitriy Makarov concludes.
His message is simple: in a crowded digital world, what counts is not how loudly you speak, but how meaningfully you are heard.
