Super Bowl LVI recently took place in Los Angeles, California, at SoFi Stadium and we all know that the Los Angeles Rams were the eventual winners as they managed to defeat the Cincinnati Bengals 23-20 on the field.
However, when you take a closer look at the entire Super Bowl event, it is quite easy to see that there were several different winners that could be identified away from the gridiron that did not actually compete in the NFL’s premier event on February 13, 2022.
Let’s take a closer look at some of the biggest winners from the day:
Sportsbooks
Arguably, one of the biggest winners from the Super Bowl was the sportsbook companies, as they were able to cash in on one of the world’s premier sporting events.
Indeed, millions and millions of people from all around the world would have tuned in to watch the game, but the American market would have had the added bonus of being able to place a wager on the sport that so many love.
Sports betting has managed to sweep across the U.S. in recent years, with several states introducing new laws and regulations that have since permitted the activity. As of Super Bowl LVI, 21 states have already decided to allow online sports betting to take place within its borders.
Places such as New York and Louisiana recently made online sports betting live just prior to Super Bowl LVI, which will have allowed operators who provide services in those states to have been big winners.
More bettors using mobile devices
Given that more and more states continue to permit and legalize mobile sports betting, it should not be a surprise that new records were recorded in regard to the amount being placed on the Super Bowl.
In order to help highlight the huge rise in mobile betting across the US, it had been reported by 13 states that numbers were significantly greater than the combined total that was achieved by the 17 states that were available by the time last year’s Super Bowl took place.
According to figures released, the 13 states reported $555 million in handle, whilst making $45.9 million in revenue. In comparison to the 2021 Super Bowl, this is significantly larger than the $486.5 million in handle and the $43 million that had been generated across 17 states.
A number of states had enjoyed a surge in revenue, with Nevada finding that it continued to break records, with its handle hitting $179.8 million; a 13.4% increase on the previous record made in 2018 ($158.6 million).
New Jersey continued to grow despite New York opening, whilst Illinois, Pennsylvania, and Colorado all enjoyed increases across a variety of different metrics. Mississippi, though, was perhaps the loser of the Super Bowl as they saw Louisiana’s decision to go live have a negative impact on them.
Hip Hop fans won
For many, the Super Bowl LVI Halftime show was one of the best to have been put on, with some arguing that it was the greatest of all time. Indeed, if you are a hip-hop fan, then perhaps you would be in agreement.
Where else would you ever think, you would get to see the likes of Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, Eminem, and Kendrick Lamar performing all in one place? Oh, let’s not forget the special appearance we saw from 50 Cent, too; how could you forget that he appeared hanging upside-down?!
Indeed, the performance saw musical royalty come together in Los Angeles. If you can tell us a bigger winner than those that enjoy that music genre, then let us know!
