Revamp Your Reproductive Health

Every year millions of adults experience fertility problems which makes it difficult for them to conceive naturally. Rule of thumb is to visit a gynecologist in bahria town rawalpindi or a fertility specialist if you have been trying to conceive for a year. And in case you are a woman above 35 years,  you must see a gynaecologist after trying for 6 months. Common causes of infertility in women are blocked fallopian tubes, fibroids, low quality ovum or problems in ovulation. In men, it is often the low quality of sperm, diabetes, celiac disease, lupus or thyroid problems.

Luckily, there are many natural ways that can improve your chances to conceive. Some simple changes in food choices and lifestyle are helpful too. Keep reading to get an insight on how you can revamp your reproductive health:

1. Eat antioxidant rich foods

Antioxidants like folate and zinc may improve fertility in both genders. They help deactivate free radicals that may damage sperm and egg cells. Fruits, vegetables, nuts and grain are full of beneficial antioxidants like vitamin C and E, folate, beta carotene and lutein.

2. Avoid trans fat

As much as healthy fats help in improving fertility, trans fat increases the risk of ovulatory infertility. Trans fat is commonly found in hydrogenated vegetable oil, margarine, fried food, processed products and baked goods.

3. Go low on carbs

Low carb diets prove to be beneficial for women with PCOS. But it’s not just the amount of carbs but the type that matters most. Refined carbs are a big no-no. Replacing them with complex carbs is a good move.

4. Eat more fiber

Fiber aids digestion and helps get rid of excess hormones. Also it keeps blood sugar levels in check. Soluble fiber from fruit is best for lowering estrogen. Whole grains, fruits, vegetables and beans are generally high in fiber. Recommended fiber intake is 25 grams per day for women and 31 grams for men.

5. Swap your protein sources

Replacing animal protein with plant based protein reduces risk of infertility. If you love meat, try opting for fish instead of beef or chicken. Plant based protein can be obtained from vegetables, beans, lentils, and nuts.

6. Take high fat dairy

Weight conscious people try to take everything low fat. Higher intakes of low fat dairy may increase the risk of infertility. Taking high fat dairy may decrease your chances of infertility. Therefore, instead of going low fat all the time, replace at least one serving per day with high fat dairy.

7. Take multivitamins

Prenatal multivitamins are often necessary to compensate for the essential micronutrients. Folic acid or folate is especially beneficial not only for conceiving but also during the first few months of pregnancy. Visit a gynecologist in johar town lahore to figure out which multivitamin is best for you.

8. Have an active lifestyle

Moderate physical activity has multiple positive effects on your body. But do not overdo workouts because it might negatively affect your reproductive system.

9. De-stress yourself

Stress is the biggest enemy of your overall health. It may trigger or stop production of various hormones and ultimately cause hormonal imbalance, which is highly detrimental for your fertility.

10. Maintain healthy weight

Aim for a healthy weight according to your BMI. Being overweight or underweight brings in problems like lack of ovulation, menstrual irregularity and low egg quality.

11. Avoid alcohol and smoking

Alcohol and smoking can have a negative impact not only on your fertility, but also on your overall health. In order to improve your reproductive health, you must cut it down or completely abstain from it.

12. Take natural supplements

Some natural supplements like Maca roots, bee pollen, bee propolis and royal jelly have a direct connection with increasing fertility. But always visit a gynecologist and take their advice before going ahead with taking any of them.

13. Look out for STDs

Sexually transmitted diseases are the biggest enemy of your fertility. You should get a routine check up done to rule out any STDs.

Bottom Line:

It’s important that you start making healthy nutrition and lifestyle choices today. Do not let stress and worry get you down. Consult your healthcare provider to find out what is best for you and above all, do not give up on your dream of starting a family.
