OSRS – An Introduction to Raids

OSRS is a game full of content, so how do you get started with raids

In many games of a similar style to Old School Runescape, we see raiding as a prominent aspect. That isn’t really the case with OSRS, as we are limited to just two raids in the entire game. Of course, when we look at other MMORPG titles, we often find that raiding is one of the most popular parts of the entire experience. Whilst OSRS may not offer us many, they do manage to pack plenty in with the Chambers of Xeric and Theatre of Blood. You might have to part with some OSRS gold and wield might weapons like the Twisted Bow to get through them, but these raids are certainly worthy of your time.

What are Raids?

Before we dive into what these raids entail, firstly we can outline what a raid is. Raids essentially act as a high-level activity that groups take part in. They involve a number of encounters which usually culminates in a huge, powerful boss battle where you’ll earn more than OSRS GP as your reward.

These raids scale depending on what your team’s combat and skill levels are for the relevant skills. This will decide what resources appear in Chambers of Xeric, so it is rather important. Not only that, but it will also decide how strong the bosses are for the raids.

Chambers of Xeric

The first raid we will be looking at is the Chambers of Xeric, which released back in January 2017. This sees players exploring a massive cave system beneath Mount Quidamortem. You can access this raid by going through the Lovakengj Minecart Network. You’ll need to have gained 65% Lovakengj favour so that you can bring a minecart control scroll to Stuliette from Miriam who you’ll find on the mountain.

The raid uses a party finding system so that you can learn the strength of the team, which has an effect on the bosses and monsters’ strength. You can buy OSRS gold to help pay for the resources you need, but its those that you find inside that will help you defeat the bosses that inhabit the chambers.

During the raid, you’ll find puzzle rooms, demi-bosses and resources. Each raid has three floors, with the last one being occupied by the last boss. In this case, you will be doing battle with the Great Olm. Considered one of Xeric’s prized possessions, this blind white salamander is a challenge for any players who choose to take it on.

Theatre of Blood

The other choice sees us trying to survive the blood sports over in Meiyerditch, as part of the Theatre of Blood raid. This presents a massive arena found below the Ver Singaza castle. Here you’ll find that vampyres like to host blood sports, and locals are encouraged to go forth and fight against the creatures that are conjured up here. This goes towards them earning their freedom from the blood tithes, and the permission to leave Morytania if they’re successful. Sadly, this is all bait from the vampyres.

This raid, which was first introduced to us in June 2018, is a linear experience where you will fight the bosses in order, rather than being a randomised effort. Firstly, you’ll be taking on the level 940 Maiden of Sugadinti. The level 870 Pestilent Bloat awaits you after this, followed by Nylocas Vasilias at level 800. Next you’ll face the level 995 Soteseg, then Xarpus at level 960. Once you have defeated all of these bosses, you will have earned the right to face off against the final boss, the mighty Verzik Vitur who stands at level 1040.

By doing these raids, you will hopefully be able to replicate the experience that you would get elsewhere within Old School Runescape. Sure, we only have the choice of two raids for the time being, but it is something that we hope to see more of in the future.

As far as preparation goes, you are going to be in for a long haul with either experience. You need to remember that there’s always the option to find OSRS gold for sale, but it will more often than not depend on the resources that you find that will help you. Naturally, finding the right team is going to be vital as well. Given that this affects how tough enemies and bosses are, its going to be a massive factor in whether you live or die in battle. Preparation is key, so make sure you put as much time into it as possible before checking out what Old School Runescape has to offer in terms of raids.
