Make your home more inviting for the holiday season – here are some festive tips

Believe it or not, it’s never too early to start planning for decorating your house for the festive season. Starting with October, the weather gets colder, the days are shorter, and the music on the radio is more wholesome. You can feel the Christmas spirit in the air, so why not plan for the holiday season earlier this year?

This period is ideal to wrap up warm and make plans for the holidays. You’re most likely spending more time inside, and while you might love your home, not everyone who visits you might find it as inviting. You want your guests to be immersed in the festive spirit that floats around your house and be in a joyful spirit when they spend time at your place.

The key to getting the most out of this season is to make your house more inviting and add a couple of festive touches.

Start with a deep cleaning

Before getting the Christmas decorations out of their boxes, ensure your house is clean and fresh. This is similar to spring cleaning, only that you do it while listening to cosy music and wearing a wool sweater. You don’t have to be as thorough as in the spring when you rearrange all clothes and move the furniture around the house to wipe out dust from the tinniest crevices, but you’ll clean the floors and carpets, change the bed sheets, and put most decorations away to make room for festive ones.

Your aim is to create a canvas perfect for the holidays. Oh, and don’t forget to prepare the kitchen for the cooking around Christmas days. Suppose you lack time to clean the house yourself, you can hire professional cleaning services.

Update the furniture

You don’t need new furniture to make your house feel more festive this Christmas, but you can definitely update some elements to make your home feel more welcoming. In case you have some old pieces you no longer find appealing but they’re still functional, don’t throw them away, but change their looks. You can do it by painting wood furniture or changing the upholstery. However, when the furniture is no longer functional, or it shows signs of wear and tear, it’s best to change it. Oak kitchens look quite warm and welcoming, so you should consider them when you search for new cabinets.

It’s always a great idea to keep vintage furniture inside because it gives a rustic vibe to your interior design. Your sofas and chairs can get a seasonal look if you cover them with some throw blankets. Make sure to match the pillows to the furniture’s new look. It would be great to choose shades like silver, golden, and red. A combination of them could make your home look extra, but extra is just the perfect word for the winter holidays.

Create a snug area

Everyone loves snuggling close to the fireplace during winter, so if you have enough space, you can create a cosy area by placing a thick rug on the floor and sprinkling around cushions and blankets. It’s best to pick warm fabric colours to create an inviting atmosphere. Gold and rusty red make a great background, but you can also opt for nudes, suppose you don’t like bold colours. In case you have plenty of space available, consider creating texture by mixing fabrics and materials. We love fake furs, chunky knits, and winter patterns.

Make your home smell nice

Candles are the ideal way to make your home smell nice because when you lit them, you set the mood for the festive season. If you don’t have scented candles, visit the local shop and look for aromatic scents like berries, pine, cinnamon, and citrus. You can put candles around the entire house, and they’ll create a cosy feel the moment you lit them up. You can even group more of them in the centre of the coffee table in the living room to create a centrepiece.

Scents of apple pie, cinnamon, pine, and cranberry remind you of the winter holidays, but if you don’t like these, buy candles featuring any other scent.

Every time your loved ones visit your house, light the candles to create a welcoming ambience. The gentle flickering of flames will make people feel more relaxed, and the scent will enable them to wind down.

Switch the throw pillows and blankets with festive ones

Adding some festive elements around the house is a single but effective way to make the space feel festive and bring cheer inside. Have a look around the house to identify the decorative elements you can swap with Christmas-inspired ones. Try incorporating metallic pillows, red blankets, and other accessories made of velvet.

Suppose you brought inside some lightweight blankets and pillows during the summer; it’s time to replace them with more textured elements. Chunky decorations make the space feel cosier, so splurge on knits and velvets.

Look for pillows and blankets in pops of colours to make the home look more cheerful and warm. Throw a piece of fabric on the floor to create a tree skirt when installing the Christmas tree; it’ll spice up the décor.

Hang seasonal art on the walls

Do you have wall art? It’s time to change it for something more seasonal and festive. Even if you don’t use artwork featuring Christmas landscapes and patterns, you can still infuse your interior décor with the festive vibe by picking decorations in seasonal colours.

You can also use wood elements for a more rustic feel. Wood always had the power to make a space feel inviting because it’s a natural element, and people have always been drawn to nature. The winter season is also the ideal moment to bring nature inside your house through flowers, plants, and the Christmas Tree. Aside from plants, you can also fill some bowls with fruits like oranges, pomegranates, and apples to welcome nature indoors.

Another option would be to hang family photos because they offer a sense of peace.
