Looking for End of Tenancy Cleaning? Make Sure You Read This Before Booking!

If you have a house move on the horizon then you will know that there is plenty to arrange. You’ll need to arrange a removal company, book in your new broadband connection, organise new providers for your utilities and remember to get that parking permit too!

However, it’s just as important not to overlook tying up the loose ends with the property you’re moving out of – one of the most important of which is booking in a professional clean!

Remember how clean and tidy your rental property was when you moved it? Well if you go through the fine print on your rental agreement you will soon realise that you are required to make sure that the property is returned in exactly the same condition as you found it in.

The good news is that the end of tenancy cleaning pro is easy to arrange and not as expensive as you might think! We have created this simple guide to make you aware of your responsibilities, what you should look out for and where you can find professional, reliable cleaners at the best rates possible!

Do I Really Need a Professional Clean?

When you move into a new home it’s an exciting time – new places to go, new people to meet and new adventures to find. With all of the excitement it can be easy to take for granted how clean and fresh your new place is. The reason for it looking so good was that the owner, or previous tenants, would have had the property professionally cleaned before you moved in.

As previously mentioned, in the vast majority of cases, your Tenancy Agreement will contain a contractual clause to have the property cleaned to a professional standard upon moving out of the property.

If you fail to do so, the landlord of the property will most likely withhold funds from your security deposit in order to cover the cost of instructing professional cleaners to bring the property up to standard. Make sure you don’t get caught out by this clause and your end of tenancy cleaning booked in!

What Is Included With End of Tenancy Cleaning?

Given the number of rental properties throughout London, you won’t be surprised to learn that there are a huge number of cleaning companies operating across town. Most of these professional companies are efficient and well organised with an extensive cleaning checklist to be covered to ensure the clean is to the expected standard.

Typical end of tenancy cleaning will consist of the following;

Kitchen – Cleaning of kitchen cupboards and appliances (ie hob, oven, fridge, freezer and microwave, washing machine, tumble dryer and dishwasher), both inside and out.

Bathroom(s) – Cleaning and descaling of wall and floor tiles, bathtub, showers, basins, taps, toilets, mirrors and fittings.

Thorough cleaning and dusting throughout the property, including; doors, door frames, door handles, light switches, sockets, light fittings and light shades etc. The cleaning of internal windows, sills and frames. Vacuuming of all soft furnishings, floors and stairs. Dusting, cleaning and polishing of tables, chairs, wardrobes, bookshelves, etc.

Further services, such as rubbish removals, external cleaning of windows, gardening etc are not included but available at an extra cost.

That Sounds Easy Enough – Can’t I Just Do It Myself?

Cleaning a property might sound straightforward and something you can easily do but the key point to remember is the level of cleanliness required. Whilst the tenancy agreement will state that the property must be cleaned to a professional standard, it does not stipulate that professional cleaners have to be instructed.

This therefore means that there is nothing to stop you trying to clean the property to yourselves. But before you rush out to buy some new Marigolds, it is important to note that as well as being a time consuming and pretty boring task, getting a property cleaned to a professional standard it’s actually a pretty skilled job!

When you move out of the property it will be inspected by a check out clerk who will thoroughly inspect for cleanliness as well as any damages incurred. The clerk has a specific checklist to work through and they will quite easily be able to spot the difference between professional end of tenancy cleaning and the work of an ‘amateur’.

It’s therefore a much faster and safer way of guaranteeing the safe return of your deposit to just leave it to the professionals from the start!
