Moving on, here’s the article:

Overview: What Is Security Architecture?

Before we assess the topic, let’s go over the definition of the term ‘Security Architecture’ for those who aren’t familiar with it. Security architecture is a design of a unified security plan that highlights the necessities and possible risks in specific scenarios and environments.

To put it in simpler terms, it’s a system of elements developed by nations to ensure regional, national, international, or global security. These elements include alliances, institutions, relationships, and practices.

And to be specific, ‘global’ typically means that it involves the entirety of our planet. International signifies the involvement of two or possibly more countries. Global security architecture, therefore, includes diplomatic and military measures that nations and organizations take to make sure that global safety and security are not threatened.

  • Symptoms Of A Failing Security Architecture

It would be delusional or downright irresponsible to claim that the existing security architecture has been working because it has not. Our world is filled with countless wars, some are not televised, and corruption is rampant on many levels and aspects of life. Some countries just display the effects of tyranny much more obvious than others.

The symptoms of a failing security architecture include but are not limited to:

  • Regional coercion/meddling
  • Transnational terrorism
  • Use of bioweapons and other types of hazardous yet unknown and unorthodox war weapons
  • The displacement of populations
  • Humanitarian Crises

There are many more examples, but these are some of the most blatant ones.

  • Ukraine: A Present Example

The driving truths behind wars are never easy to pinpoint, but one thing is clear: the politicians who instigate them never suffer the terror of their actions. It is the people that become the victims. It is the people who suffer loss, tragedy, violence, bloodshed, loss of national identity, and so on.

Ukraine was not protected by NATO because it wasn’t part of it. Although membership plans were initially there, they were shelved and pushed aside after the 2010 presidential election. Viktor Yanukovych, who was elected president at that time, preferred to keep Ukraine non-aligned.

This is the main reason why NATO did not defend Ukraine against Russia’s whole country invasion. If Ukraine had been part of the NATO countries, NATO would have been obliged to protect the country.

However, this just goes to show the fragility of such pacts and alliances. The people of Ukraine have been forced to flee for their lives, refuging to neighboring countries to escape the war. Global security architecture has failed many times, and this is a prime example of modernity.

Ukraine is now a shell of what it used to be, with torn-down buildings and a landscape destroyed by warfare. History has not failed to repeat itself, as global leaders continue their warfare at the cost of people’s lives. Global security architecture isn’t just failing; it is a catastrophe on a massive scale.

Try to think of a time where there hasn’t been war or violence, and if you can’t think of such a time, then it’s because we’ve been in a perpetual war for a very long time. Many people from different countries have suffered tyranny and abuse from unjust leaders, and yet none of these so-called humanitarian organizations have actually been able to help them.

  • Other Example: Yemen

The United Nations (UN) is a good example of a supposed element of global security architecture, created with the intent to help and serve humanity as a whole; however, the UN has failed to live up to its expectations more than once. It has failed the world many times more.

A good example is its negligence towards Yemen. Yemen is now one of the most war-torn and poorest countries in the world. Famine has swept up the entire nation. The UN’s job was to send humanitarian help and provide food and medicine to the civilians.

However, just taking a look at Yemen at the present moment shows you exactly that the UN has not sufficiently helped the disastrous state of this country. The war began in 2014 and continues its wicked reign in Yemen. There is no justice that can be served to balance out what has been done to this country. There are no excuses left for our leaders to hide behind.

Final Thoughts

Of course, our global security architecture is failing; it hasn’t been working in the first place. The fundamental issue at heart lies within the infrastructure of power and who holds it. Our world has been in perpetual war because of the failure of our leaders to make decisions that actually benefit the whole of humanity.

Politicians and global leaders care more about their plans and agendas, and it shows that they are not for the good of the majority. First-world country civilians might not feel the effects of global corruption as severely as those in developing countries, but this does not mean that war and corruption cease to exist.

We must realize the fault of our actions today is responsible that history repeats itself over and over again. We must promote a world with benevolent leadership but peace on the highest pedestal and change the dynamic of power. However, this is but a utopian vision of a better future. At the present moment, the reality is bleak.
