How To Stop An Overflowing Toilet

A clogged toilet is a common problem in any household. It can be very frustrating to have an overflowing toilet and not know how to fix it. Luckily, you can take a few steps that will help you solve your issue quickly and easily. Browse this site for professional help incase the problem scope goes beyond your capabilities.

Find The Source Of The Problem

The thing to do when trying to fix a toilet is find the source of the problem. There are many things that can cause this issue and it will vary depending on your model, so you’ll need to figure out what caused yours. This could be as simple as too much toilet paper or an object blocking the way in which water flows down into the bowl. You should then manually remove whatever was blocking your toilet.

Shut Off Your Water Supply

The most important  thing you need to do is shut off your water supply. This will help you to avoid any potential damage and costly repairs later on. There should be a shut-off valve located in either the basement or under the sink.

Use A Plunger

A toilet overflow is not caused by anything in particular, but rather it’s usually a case of water pathway being blocked. In these cases, the plunger can be used to stop the overflowing and push everything back down where it belongs!

Simply put your plunger into the toilet and plunge it up and down a few times in order to create suction that will break any buildup inside of the pipe. You may have to do this multiple times. Keep plunging until the water starts going down or if you can see what’s causing it, remove whatever was blocking it with your hands.

Close The Toilet Valve

Closing the toilet valve will stop more water from going into the tank, which reduces the chance of overflow and allows you to work on fixing your problem without worrying about it getting worse. It also forces the water  to start draining out of the overflow tube.

Use a Toilet Auger

If the plunger doesn’t seem to do anything, use a toilet auger. This tool has long tubes on it and when turned by hand, uses spinning blades at the end of them to clear blockages so your water can flow again without causing any damage in your pipes or pipes outside of the house. The auger will reach around bends in the plumbing lines as well!

Call A Plumber

If you have tried everything but the toilet is still overflowing, it’s time to call a plumber. They are trained on how to fix most common issues that can happen and they will know what tools to use as well. They will be able to come out and assess your situation in order to find the best solution for you!

If they give you any advice or recommendations about what might work better than others, make sure that those are followed as closely as possible to avoid future problems with your plumbing system. Some people try to handle these situations themselves and end up making them worse or even damaging their home.

Things To Avoid When Trying To Stop An Overflowing Toilet

i) Do not flush the toilet

When you are fixing a clogged toilet, the last thing you should do is flush it. This can cause even more problems and damage to your home as water will go everywhere instead of just in the toilet bowl. Flushing while trying to unclog your toilet will only make things worse by sending all of those particles down into your pipes which could eventually create another clog that won’t be fixed so easily next time around.

ii) Do not put any objects or chemicals in the toilet

Do not put any objects or chemicals inside the bowl because this may cause it to overflow onto other surfaces within your home, which could result in even more costly repairs than what was already done on the floor itself!

iii) Don’t disconnect any pipes connected to the toilet

It is important to maintain the integrity of your pipes in order to avoid any unnecessary leaks. If you disconnect them, there’s a good chance that it will cause more problems than just a clogged toilet and overflowing water.

If you find that your toilet is overflowing, don’t panic! Your first step should be to identify its cause to figure out what specific steps need to be taken. Sometimes there are clogs, and other times this could happen as a result of someone flushing something down the toilet which shouldn’t have been flushed at all.
