How to show someone you love them this Valentine’s Day

Everyone wants to feel cherished on Valentine’s Day, but after a few years, showering your lover with chocolates and flowers starts to feel cliché and even a little boring. If you’re looking to spice things up this February 14th, it might be time to consider some other ways to show your SO how much you love them.

No matter where your strengths lie, there are plenty of gestures you can make to show your loved one what they mean to you. From writing something from the heart to cooking them a romantic dinner at home, we’ve compiled a list of thoughtful gifts and things you can do to make your partner feel treasured this Valentine’s Day.

Write a letter or poem

A heartfelt letter or handwritten poem is the perfect way to show your love for your partner. Use your own words rather than copying an existing poem or letter to make your gift feel more personal to them. Consider what they mean to you and what you love about them as you write, as this will help you create something which is both meaningful and authentic.

Create a homemade gift basket

A gift basket or hamper is always a lovely gift to receive, but it’s even more special when the contents have been specifically chosen with you in mind. Take some time to think about what makes your loved one happy and what will show them how much you care. For example, if your partner loves cocktails, you could treat them to a cocktail-themed hamper.

Make them a personalised playlist

There’s a reason the classic mixed tape featured so often in early 2000s pop culture. The ultimate romantic gift, a collection of songs created with your partner’s taste in mind will go a long way to showing how well you know them and how much they mean to you. Don’t forget to include some songs which have a special meaning to you both, like the first song you danced to together.

Cook for them

It’s often said the way to the heart is through the stomach, so treating your loved one to a homecooked meal is bound to make them feel special. Whether you opt for breakfast, lunch, dinner or even brunch, choose a dish you know they enjoy and make your dining area look extra special. If you’re feeling generous, you could even pick up a nice bottle of wine or prosecco to enjoy too!

Breakfast in Bed

An oldie but a goodie, breakfast in bed is always sure to go down well on Valentine’s Day. No matter whether you opt for a continental style with pastries and fruit or whip up a full English, your loved one will appreciate the effort you’ve made. Consider getting a personalised Valentine’s Day card for them to open with their breakfast and make them feel extra special too.
