How To Remove and Kill Mold in Your Home

Mold is a fungus that spreads through pores into the environment. One can quickly identify molds with naked eyes, and the scent is easily detectable from whatever corner it has grown. Fortunately, mold is not harmful unless left untreated for a long period, where it could cause serious health problems.

Often, mold is found in kitchens, bathrooms, basements, and other areas where condensation is a problem. Mold is toxic and exacerbates allergies and respiratory conditions like asthma. This is why you should get rid of the mold from your house as soon as possible. Before you do that, read on to learn the basics of mold cleanup. Here at Water Mold Fire Restoration Atlanta, we help you rapidly eradicate molds in your home and guide you on how to prevent them in the future. The article will guide you on what molds are and how to eliminate them using the most effective methods.

How To Get Rid of Mold:

The method of removing mold varies depending on the variety you are encountering. As there are many types of molds, and to start removing them, we will have to detect the species of the mold.

Mold problems at your house should be dealt with by professionals. When you choose to manage this yourself, you will need to take certain precautions to ensure that nothing goes wrong. To begin with, make sure you are wearing adequate protective gear. As a professional, you should always wear long sleeves and pants, eyewear, gloves, and a mask rated at least N95.

Removal of Mold from Walls

Any mold on the interior wall indicates a ventilation problem, possibly caused by a leak in the wall’s pipe.

It is impossible to remove mold from water drainage by scrubbing since they will grow back after a few days. To stop this, the drainage problem must be fixed first, then wipe the area using a bleach-soaked sponge. Then scrub the sponge on the contaminated area again, and allow it to soak for a few minutes. In case this does not work, try the specially formulated mold remover with the bleach solution.

Home Exterior Mold

The molds on the house’s exterior not just look ugly but can also migrate to the interior, causing damage to the home. Mold is usually found on the deck. To remove this mold, you can use the detergent or any power washer and scrub it. Hydrogen peroxide can also be helpful to clean the wood sidings, which does not harm the landscaping.

Removing Mold From Bathroom

Humidity and damp places like bathrooms create a perfect environment for mold to grow. Several cleaners in the market can remove the molds. However, chlorine bleach in combination with water is the most convenient and safer solution.

What you need to do is, mix one part of bleach in 16 parts of water. Apply this solution to the affected area and let it dry before your scrub.

Remove Mold from Walls and Ceilings

In most cases, mold on walls is easy to remove since it only covers a small area of the wall. Unfortunately, if the mold on your ceiling is highly porous, you will have to replace it. Nevertheless, if you act fast, you can stop the mold from growing.

In order to remove mold from a wall or ceiling, wash the surface with a detergent and water solution. Apply the mixture of bleach and warm water using a brush or sponge. Scrub the area thoroughly. Let the mixture dry for five minutes and rinse with the water.

Cleaning Up

Removing all the molds will not stop mold from growing back in the house. Proper cleanup after removal of Mold is essential to avoid recontamination of molds. Immediately following the mold cleanup, it’s important to dispose of all materials you think were in contact with the mold, such as the mask. Also, wash the clothes in hot water, rinse the shoes, and shower to remove the pores from the skin if there are any.

Hiring a Mold Removal Expert:

It’s a good thing to learn how to remediate mold on your own. But if the mold in your house is too big to handle, or you are unsure about the mould mitigation process, it is recommended to call experts. However, make sure to hire a certified and trained staff in mold treatment.
