Dry hair care – tips

Are you struggling with dry hair? In most cases, it’s not enough to use a moisturizer to fight this problem. How to solve it once and for all? Check our tips!

Dry hair can be a struggle – it not only feels dry causing discomfort, but also gets electrified easier, not to mention the lack of shine. If you don’t know what’s causing this issue and how to solve it, we’ve prepared a step-by-step guide for you.

Why is your hair dry?

The first step is to identify the reason. If you don’t know what causes the dryness, you won’t be able to pick the solution that actually addresses a particular issue. Have you always been struggling with dry hair? Or maybe it’s something recent? If the issue has started recently, take a closer look at your everyday environment and haircare habits.

#1 Exposure to environmental conditions

Sun, saltwater, air conditioning, heating – all these factors can make your hair dry. It may be enough to apply dedicated cosmetics to protect the hair from heat and UV radiation, or increase the humidity in the house to notice a considerable change.

#2 The cosmetics

The dryness may also be a result of the choice of cosmetics. The main culprit is usually the sulfates that hide under SLES and SLS. These ingredients have strong purifying properties but unfortunately, may dehydrate your hair. How to avoid that? You can choose non-sulfate shampoos or use the conditioner-shampoo-conditioner washing method to lower the penetration abilities of the sulfates.

#3 The natural structure of your hair

The porosity of the hair is the factor that determines its tendency to loose moisture. If the cuticle is very porous, the humidity escapes it much faster. That’s why curly hair that is high porosity needs much more moisture than straight and thick hair. Note, however, that the porosity of your hair can change due to heat treatment and coloring.

How to protect your dry hair?

Moisturizing is obviously necessary – that’s why you should include such ingredients as aloe, algae, honey, lactic complex, glycerin, or urea in your hair care routine. But aside from that, you’ll also need regular oiling and conditioning to capture the moisture inside the cuticle.

Poly-unsaturated oils are the most recommended for dry hair since they create a protective coat on its surface, not letting the moisture escape. You can use pumpkin seed oil, chia seed oil, sunflower oil, hemp oil, grape seed oil, nigella seed oil, and many others. Coconut oil is a great moisturizer, but it’s saturated, so it won’t protect your dry hair for long.

If you want to use hair extensions on dry hair, we recommend avoiding hot fusion methods and picking tape in hair extensions instead. It’s a damage-free method suitable for anyone. Do you want some examples? Check the tape in extensions before and after comparisons.
