Décor Ideas for Your Interior Hallways

Although you might not spend a lot of time in your hallways, it’s still important to think carefully about how you decorate them. Your entrance hall, in particular, requires attention as this space is the first impression that visitors to your home will have of your sense of style and your home’s interiors. You want to make sure that this space is welcoming and complements the other rooms in your home, so if you are planning on redecorating your hallways this year, here are some tips that you might find helpful.

Lighter Colours

Most of the time, hallways are small spaces and can even be darker areas of the house if there isn’t a lot of natural light coming in. This is why choosing lighter colours to decorate in could be a good idea, as they can help to give the illusion that these spaces are bigger. If you do have more spacious hallways, as some larger homes might do, then you can likely get away with bolder colours in your entrance halls if you want to make more of a statement with your décor choices.

Flooring

Carpets can work well for hallways, and if you want to keep these areas feeling cosy and warm, this might be the best option for you. However, entrance halls or hallways leading from your back doors might be better of with wood or stone flooring put down, as these are easier to clean. Considering that a lot of people will be coming from the outside with dirty shoes on through these hallways, you might want flooring that won’t get stained easily as a carpet might do. Tile flooring is also worth considering as this can be a lovely feature in entrance halls, particularly in old Victorian homes. Lighting

If your hallways have some natural light flowing through them during the day, that’s great, but it isn’t uncommon for hallways to be a little bit gloomy. If you can let in more natural light by installing a skylight or a window at the end of your hallway, this is certainly something to consider. However, if this isn’t suitable, you’ll have to think carefully about your lighting choices. LED bulbs are incredibly bright and the most energy-efficient lighting option, so this is certainly worth considering. However, wall sconces can also look lovely in hallways and offer a softer lighting option if this is preferable.

Furniture

In larger hallways, you might be able to fit an armchair and create a little reading nook which would be a nice feature, or you might want to put in a bench where people can sit as they take off or put on their shoes. Console tables can also look lovely in hallways, and this can provide additional storage space for you, as well as provide you with a surface to display family photographs or other artwork or even a nice vase of fresh flowers.

If you are planning on redecorating your hallway soon, consider these décor tips to make it look as stylish as possible.
