Bisexual Characters in TV Series of Last Years

The term “Bisexual” was first used in the late 1800s, but the media has been slow to adopt the word. It’s a sexual orientation that can be defined as someone who experiences romantic, physical, and/or emotional attraction to men and women. Bisexuality is not a monosexual identity like straight or gay because it doesn’t refer to just one gender.

For so long, people kept their sexuality hidden, considering what would others say, but things are quickly changing. A big credit goes to online dating sites that have become so advanced in the last decade or so that everyone uses these platforms for dating bisexuals.

Bisexuality and Bi-Dating on Screen

In the past, the bi-dating phenomenon has been portrayed in many ways, from being seen as a way for people who are unwilling to be open about their sexuality to find love to being seen as an excuse for bad behavior by the person who identifies as bisexual.

The good thing is that the mainstream media has started to show bisexuality as a normal part of society. It is being shown as a normal part of love and relationships, not just an experimental phase that some people go through. You can also find many bisexual dating websites and chat rooms where people openly talk about their sexual orientations and say that they are dreaming about dating a bisexual woman or man, as well as the work of art related to bi-men and bi-women.

Bisexual Characters Loved by the People

Bi+ women and men go through a difficult time and are told that their sexuality isn’t “real” or it’s just a phase that will be over soon. By continually being told these things, they may not feel confident about their identity and are unsure about what to believe. To feel better, they look for motivation, and it’s often available on TV.

Here are five popular bisexual characters in TV series for those looking for some entertainment or motivation.

Annalise Keating in How to Get Away with Murder

Annalise Keating from “How to Get Away with Murder” is a treat to watch for bisexual women who are constantly second-guessing their brilliance and talents. Middleton University professor Annalise Keating is famous for defending villains with her beauty, intelligence, and ruthless personality (even if it’s often misunderstood). But what’s Annalise most known for? Her bisexuality!

It’s revealed in Season two when she kisses Eve Rothlo, her ex-girlfriend. Annalise and Eve’s complicated history of betrayals and heartbreaks has left many viewers rooting for them to have a happy ending together despite their body count.

Casey Gardner in Atypical

In the new Netflix series, “Atypical,” Casey Gardner is a high-schooler who, like many bisexuals and gay people out there, is still exploring her sexuality. What makes the series a lot more exciting is how it explores her sexuality in ways that are often quite funny and heartfelt.

Initially, she experiences feelings for her friend-turned-boyfriend Evan but later manages to break it off and explore different people. As so many teens do, Casey struggles with finding herself sexually as she enters high school and eventually gets into a relationship with her best friend, Izzie Taylor.

Ellaria Sand in Game of Thrones

The character of Ellaria Sand is bisexual in the hit TV series Game of Thrones. She is a beautiful, intelligent woman born into a high-ranking Dornish family and desires to be Queen. The character’s sexuality is notably different from the books, which feature an explicit relationship between her and her lover.

Game of Thrones’s intricate web of alliances is complex, but Queen Cersei’s impending battle with Ellaria Sand from the continent of Dorne is something that makes her a lot more interesting. How she handles the circumstances is what makes her inspiring for any bisexual woman watching the series.

Shawna Hawkins in Tales of the City

The character of Shawna Hawkins is bisexual. She reflects on the many different types of love relationships in the show, providing an opportunity to see a variety of perspectives and cultural representations of sexuality.

She is apparently without fear and becomes even more apparent when her life seems threatened by a homophobic cop in the opening episode. The utopic setting of the series really helps to demonstrate her authenticity. She never uses the word “bisexual,” but she does pursue romantic relationships with men and women.

Nola Darling in She’s Gotta Have It

The character of Nola Darling in Season one of the Netflix series “She’s Gotta Have It” is an example of how bisexuality was treated in the past. She’s a pansexual individual, but the first season never touched her queerness, not at least to the extent the bisexual audience would’ve wanted.

Thankfully, season two changed it and gave Nola the kind of attention her character deserved. It became exciting when she started exploring her relationship with her girlfriend, Opal. The relationship later led to an important phase of self-discovery for her.

Conclusion
No matter what your sexual orientation is, you should take it proudly and never worry about how others would perceive you. Go check out these popular TV series to witness the beautiful lives of bisexual women, and if that’s not enough, sign up for a bisexual dating site to hang out with like-minded folks.
