A good internal communication strategy is essential to the success of any company

It has been reported that for 79% of organizations, internal communication is regarded as one of their most important success factors?

There is a need to communicate the company’s strategies and goals to employees so that they can align their personal objectives accordingly. When employees understand how their own contribution helps to achieve the company’s objectives, their morale increases, turnover decreases, and productivity increases. This has a direct impact on the bottom line.”
said Stephanie Gillis-Paulgaard of the company.

Let’s be honest, if your employees do not believe anything that is written or said about your organization, why should your customers?

When Internal communication consulting is conducted in an effective manner, both employees and employers are able to benefit from it. However, the question remains as to how an organization can effectively communicate internally?  It is important to understand who the target audience is. In order to communicate effectively, it is necessary to tailor messages to the audience (employees), listen to what they say, and when a message is being crafted, consider the medium and tone with which it will be communicated.

In order for an organization to achieve its goals, effective internal communication is essential. It is the critical link that ensures that every employee, regardless of position and title, finds the motivation to meet their responsibilities each and every day they report to work. Effective communication leads to greater relationships and trust among employees.  This is because communication is the foundation of all relationships.

Therefore, let’s take a look at what good internal communication looks like.

  • It is important to understand your audience and what appeals to them
  • Conversations that involve both parties (wherever possible, face-to-face meetings)
  • Language that is clear and jargon-free
  • Communication that is open and objective
  • Communication that is consistent and regular

In addition, you should consider an accessible medium (don’t send out mass email blasts to your workforce if the majority of them do not have access to technology).

There is a good chance that you have an idea of where your company stands on this topic.  If you were asked to describe the internal communication for your organization, how would you sum it up?

In my own professional experience, I have been developing and executing successful internal communication strategies for more than 17 years. As the name implies, Take Roots Consulting was founded with the belief that internal communication shouldn’t be restricted to the vision and mission statements that appear on a corporate website or wall.  There is a large amount of written, spoken and non-verbal interaction amongst employees that contributes to the success or failure of an organization on a daily basis.

You may want to consider revamping your internal communications strategy.  In addition to high level strategic consulting, Take Roots offers a variety of communication workshops, among other services. Click here for more information on how Take Roots Consulting can help you and your organization.
