5 Efficient Ways to Cut Electric Bill at Home

You only need minimal effort and time to cut your electric bill at home.

Adios to your high electricity bill, these five tips will efficiently help you cut the costs and increase your year-round savings.

  1. Assess Energy Use; Conduct Energy Audit

First things, first— assess. You would not know what measures to take or where you should reduce your electric use if you do not assess. Several utility companies offer free home energy audits to their clients. If your utility company happens to offer one, take advantage of it. But, if they don’t, you can do an energy audit yourself.

Energy audit greatly helps you identify which areas to reduce your energy use.

  1. Use Energy-Efficient Appliances

If you plan to purchase a machine and equipment for your homes, such as a dishwasher or washer, buy an energy-efficient one. Appliances with Energy Star labels use lesser water and electricity compared to other models.

Aside from appliances, ensure you have replaced your light bulbs with LED bulbs. It is also energy-efficient, cutting your bills to almost half of the cost.

  1. Do Laundry at Nearest Laundromat

You can wash your clothes in cold water and large loads to lower the utility bills or purchase an energy star-labeled washer. However, if this method does not fit your budget, you can have your laundry at the nearest laundromat

Check out your neighborhood laundromat if they offer laundry pickup and delivery services, making it more convenient. You are not only cutting the utility costs, but also you are saving more time and energy for other essential chores. Laundromat services are not hefty, and you might even save more in the long run than purchasing a washer and doing it at home.

  1. Replace Air Filters Regularly

Sometimes it is overwhelming how you have to keep track of the little things, and if you overlook these things, it might cost you more. That’s why pay close attention to your HVAC system and air filters. You have to replace the air filter of your HVAC system every 30 days. If 30 days is too short for you, you can have high-end pleated air filters lasting 6 months. But, it is best to set a reminder to refrain from forgetting it.

If you don’t replace your air filter regularly, it results in inefficient heating and cooling, increasing your electricity bills.

  1. Weatherstrip Windows and Doors

Winter is the most expensive season. You need to have your heater on. But, making your doors and windows efficiently weatherstrip is a smart move. When air drafts come through your doors and windows, it triggers your heating or cooling system to overwork.

Seal the leaks around your doors and windows to save you as much as 30% on your electricity bills. You can use foam, vinyl, or plastic to weatherstrip your doors and windows.

See? You only have to make a few changes to reduce energy and costs. Follow this advice to lower your utility bills and reduce your environmental impact in minimal effort.
