10 tips to speed up your Mac

To get a little more performance out of their Apple machine, every Mac user should learn a few simple tweaks.

Anyone with a Mac, whether they are an enterprise, a creative or a home user, should know a few simple steps they can take to boost their Apple machine’s performance. An essential guide is provided in this short collection.

Top 10 ways to make your Mac fast

Following are the 10 best ways to skyrocket your Mac device.

1. Make sure your Mac is up to date

Your Mac may not have been updated for some time. Almost every OS update delivers some useful performance improvements behind the scenes. It is necessary to upgrade the system on your Mac to access them. Tap Updates in the App Store and install them. Get the latest tech updates to stay updated with everything.

2. Monitor your activities

Try Activity Monitor (Fastest way to open it? Command-Space>Type Activity Monitor, press Return). The screenshot below illustrates how your Mac works. Take a look at CPU and Memory columns to determine if there is an application that is demanding a lot of your system. Until you need it again, just quit the app.

3. Starting up

What apps do you have that automatically start when you boot your Mac? You can find your Username by going to System Preferences>Users&Groups.

View your LogIn items after entering your password. Remove any items from the Start up items list that you do not need to run automatically by tapping the Minus – button.

4. Visuals should be limited

It’s easy to create beautiful visuals on Macs. In any case, you may want to turn some of those effects off to get a little more performance out of your computer.

Under System Preferences>Dock, uncheck the following checkboxes:

  • Extensive magnifying
  • Open applications animatedly
  • Hide and show the Dock automatically
  • Use Scale Effect to minimize windows.
  • Transparency effects may also need to be reduced. You can reduce transparency by checking Reduce Transparency under Settings> Accessibility > Display.

5. A brief description of this Mac

Getting rid of items no longer needed is one of the best ways to boost Mac performance using macOS’ built-in tools. Not only Mac, but this technique also applies to Windows users in boosting PC performance.

You can access them from the menu by tapping the Storage option under About this Mac. You will then see a visual representation of what takes up space on your system.

I found that to be quite interesting, but in order to access the tools you have to tap the Manage icon.

In this section, you’ll see a selection of different items (Mail, iTunes, iCloud Drive, and so on). By tapping on these, you will be able to get more information and to find app-specific recommendations. The Recommendation item will also appear on your screen. If you tap this button, you will be presented with a series of ideas that may help you eliminate space wasting items from your Mac, likely including:

  • With iCloud storing all your photos and videos as well as allowing you to reduce the size of your Mac’s collection, it is possible to maintain all your collections online in the cloud.
  • By enabling this, you’ll prevent iTunes movies and TV shows that you have already watched from being stored on your Mac. Your Mac will only store recent Mail attachments if it has insufficient storage.
  • After 30 days, any item in your trash will be automatically deleted.
  • Clutter Reduction: This tool lets you clean up the clutter on your Mac by deleting large files, downloads, and other items.

6. Collections on iTunes

When you install apps on your iOS device, iTunes likes to collect them. Using the Reduce Clutter tool, you can delete apps that you no longer use from iTunes. The only difference is that it makes more sense to do that from within iTunes, because then you will know more precisely which apps you are deleting. The process is time-consuming, but that’s the best part – it’s kind of like learning about the history of apps as you explore those early attempts you installed back in 2007.

7. Finding tips

Each time you open a new Finder window, do you see all your files in the Finder window? If you change this, you may see a tiny performance boost. You can also make an In Progress folder into which your work in progress is saved by opening up the Finder Preferences and selecting an appropriate folder. The Mac will no longer have to display all of your files, but will simply open the folder you have defined and buy guestpost.

8. Tips for using your web browser

System hogs include web browsers and email applications. If you open Safari and have Web pages open, you can see which processes are using up the most CPU by opening Activity Monitor. Many of these pages are open on your Mac and running annoying scripts that drain your computer’s processing power. You should close your browser when you are not using it, and keep tight control of the number of websites you have open in the browser at any time. Also, you should minimize the number of browser extensions you utilize.

9. Tips for mailing

Eventually, Apple’s Mail can become a little unwieldy. While it may not apply to everyone, it is certainly the case for people who receive a lot of email and who have used the same accounts for years (like me). Your entire system can slow down if Mail hangs. In order to tame Mail app, you can try the following:

  • Delete spam, empty your deleted items folder, and remove anything you don’t need.
  • You can rebuild your mailbox by selecting Mailbox>Rebuild. It may take some time to complete this operation.
  • Reindexing: Learn about this process in this report.
  • You might also like to try these other suggestions.

10. Increase the memory

Optimizing the amount of RAM you have installed in your Mac will be a surefire way to improve the performance of your machine. In that way, it is a great disappointment that Apple does not offer us an easier way to install more of them by ourselves.

Conclusions

Following all these tips would definitely give a boost to your Mac device and you’ll have a feel of new Mac device. If you’ve have any other way to improve speed, let us know in the comments section.
