It’s close to that time of the year again; when the top four teams go head-to-head at Super Bowl 2022. Steelers vs Chiefs predictions are fairly even, and no one can say for sure what the final outcome will be.
The Chiefs could very well take the win, especially if you consider how many things are going right for them at the moment. In order to highlight their biggest strengths, we’ve put together four reasons why the Chiefs can walk away with this year’s trophy.
1. Rolling momentum
Now that the Packers are officially out of the running, the Chiefs are firm favourites heading into Super Bowl LVI. The Chiefs may not have had the best start to the season, having lost the No. 1 seed in the AFC, but that just means they’ll have to face some additional challenges on their path to glory.
Currently, the Chiefs are on a strong winning streak that doesn’t appear to be running out of steam any time soon. They went from 3-4 to 11-4 in an astonishing turnabout last year, which made them the four to one favourite. However, even with an eight-game winning streak, the pressure is on as we inch ever closer to Super Bowl Sunday.
As the season comes to an end and the playoffs begin to wind down, the Chiefs are heading into the weekend with 11 wins out of their last 12 games. Their form has been formidable, to say the least, and their upcoming game against the Bengals will be captivating to watch.
2. Adaptable offence
With one of the NFL’s most recent star quarterbacks, Patrick Mahones, spearheading their attack, the Chiefs are ready to cause trouble for any defensive formation. Their versatility is well-established at this point, having proven their skill and adaptability under various conditions over the course of the season.
Mahones has been proving his naysayers wrong for a while now, but a quick glance at his stats will immediately tell you why he’s regarded as one of the world’s best. Despite an admittedly high number of interceptions, he is a prolific thrower, with over 35 touchdown assists and over 4,500 yards thrown.
As influential as Mahones may be, the talented QB isn’t the only weapon in the Chiefs’ arsenal. Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce have been in potent form and, barring any unlucky injuries, the core of the Chief’s offence remains as strong as ever.
3. Resilient defence
Aside from a few turnovers, it’s widely agreed that the Chiefs’ offence is their most prominent strength. Their defence, on the other hand, has had a bit of a rough time for the past few games. Nonetheless, they’ve shown that they can buckle down when it counts, which is all they need to do with such a strong offence to back them up.
With a high margin for error, their unforced errors can be forgiven to some degree, provided they can hold it together long enough for the cavalry to arrive. If they can keep the Bengals under 20 points, the rest of the team should be able to finish off the match and do what needs to be done.
For the Chiefs’ defence to succeed, they will have to treat every future game as a war of attrition. At the moment, there’s no defence that can hold Mahones back, so all the Chiefs’ defence needs to do is stay focused, treating every point lost as a precious commodity.
4. Strong leadership
Experience is a key factor in the success of any team. Luckily for the Chiefs, both the players and coaching staff alike have a wealth of experience to draw from. Seeing as the Chiefs have made it to the Super Bowl for two years straight, you could easily argue that they are the most experienced team in the NFL at this point in time.
The veterans are leading from the front and the whole team knows how high the stakes are. That’s all thanks to Andrew Reid, head coach of the Chiefs, who is renowned for his leadership style, success rate, and of course, his extensive trophy cabinet.
Reid is the only NFL coach in history to win 100 games, appearing in four consecutive conference championships. His first year in professional coaching led to a Super Bowl win for the Packers. If there’s anyone who can lead the Chiefs to victory, it’s the man who brought the Chiefs their first Super Bowl win in 50 years.
