What is Viton® Rubber Used for?

Viton is a rubber that can be used in the harshest environments due to its ability to withstand extreme climates and high temperatures effectively. At the same time, it can also resist strong chemicals and their impacts. If you need a reliable place to buy Viton rubber products, you can find Viton® FKM Gaskets at the Gorilla Gasket website.

Viton® is especially suitable for applications that require hard-wearing, including gaskets found in electrical equipment, boats, airplanes, pumps, motor vehicles, and has numerous applications in all kinds of manufacturing industries. It is also used to manufacture seals and is the most durable form of rubber, giving very high performance. It is also versatile and can be used in different products easily with excellent results.

Viton® Features

Viton® has become prevalent in the market due to its outstanding features. The main feature of Viton®, a brand name of DuPont and a synthetic form of rubber, is that it is a fluoropolymer elastomer containing copolymers of the terpolymer, making it hard to destroy.

Types of Viton®

In the rubber industry, Viton® was first marketed by DuPont. The polymer has four variations, and the most popular in the buyers’ circle are the ones with fluorine content in the range of 66% to 70%. The primary grades of Viton® are grade A with fluorine content of around 66%, grade B contains 68% of fluorine, grade F contains 70% fluorine and is commonly used in oxygenated fuels for use in the automotive industry and finally, specialty grade which has applications in oil exploration.

Benefits of using Viton®

The use of Viton® has grown tremendously in recent years. There are various advantages to the use of Viton®. First, Viton® has a  great capacity to withstand high temperatures; hence, most of its good qualities remain unaffected even when its temperature fluctuates. Secondly, it retains its mechanical properties. Thirdly, it is oil and chemical resistant.

Uses of Viton®

Due to its durability, it is invariably applied to make O-rings, seals, gaskets, and various molded and extruded objects.

Viton®, in combination with TFE, HFP, VDF, HPF, and PMVE is used to make off-the-shelf and customized products. Type B and F of Viton® are more resistant to the impact of acidic biodiesel, and the only necessity for the end-user is to decide the best Viton® grade for any particular task.

Since the compounds created using Viton® remain elastic when they have exposed lab oven temperature in the range of 2040 C or when exposed to intermittent exposure to temperature up to 3160C, Viton® is an excellent choice for rubber production.

What makes it ideal is that it can resist degradation caused by a host of chemicals and fluids. It is also resistant to oil, fuel, lubricant, and most mineral acids used in rubber production.Viton® works better in rubber production than most other forms of non-fluorinated elastomers around, and it offers the best fluid resistance in all commercial rubbers on the market. Due to its performance, the Viton® is considered to be the top commercial rubber around.

Why Viton® is so Popular

Viton® is extremely popular because of its low permeability to a wide array of substances. It gives the best performance in oxygenated fuels for automotive. It is also best resistant to atmospheric oxidation and exposure to sunlight, fungus, mold, and various climatic conditions. That is why the Viton® is so prevalent in the market with an extensive range of uses.

As already highlighted above, Viton® use is becoming global due to its fantastic capability of remaining functional even in harsh environments. Among its grades, grade A is the one that is commonly used in O-rings, gaskets, and seals. Similarly, the B grade offers better fluid resistance, whereas the F grade offers the best resistance for fuel permeation. It is for the end-user to find out the grade that fits most to their requirements and budget.

Most important is that Viton® can work in a situation where raw materials fail, so its popularity is growing consistently.

Viton® application is global because of the quality, resistance powers, and durability, yet most consumers do not know how to use it. Before deciding on Viton®, sharing insight with an expert or approaching a reputed and trusted provider could be the best solution since you will get all the basic information you need.
