Perfect ideas for Christmas decor for the minimalists

Christmas time may feel overwhelming for minimalists because of the massive decor everyone puts out for the festivities. It need not be so, though; your individualism still counts. Below are a few ideas on how to decorate with little and still fill the room with festive cheer.

1. Understated Trees

This year, skip the big tree and keep it simple with a mini Christmas tree. A burlap-wrapped little tree with a candle or a bowl of Christmas candy makes a lovely and easy Christmas decoration that is ideal for smaller spaces.

Another option is to use houseplants that you already have. Turn your Weeping Fig festive with fairy lights wrapped around the bottom, or swap out your normal plant pot for a red one. The good thing about using a houseplant is that you can get one that purifies and filters the air around you. With the help of cleaning detergents from Makro offers and scented candles, you can keep your space clean, open and smelling fresh.

If you aren’t fond of fairy lights but still want the tree, find small, thin artificial trees and place them around your favourite reading nook, in the bathroom or beside your desk in your bedroom.

2. Subtle ornaments

Ornament bowl

If you are going for the festive look, an ornament bowl might be perfect. It’s cheap and convenient. All you need to do is place ornaments such as baubles and pine cones in a glass bowl, and voila! Nice ornaments are available when you click here.

Themed decorations

Another way to decorate in a minimalist style is to choose three theme colours and hang ornaments, materials or objects of that colour in your house. For example, if you choose to use basil, beige and chestnut rose, you can find ways to subtly incorporate them in different rooms throughout your home. Hang mistletoe or leaves from a mirror in the bathroom or glass jars in bedrooms with fresh flowers inside like the picture below. For a more festive feel, opt for roses or poinsettias.

Ornament Tray

Try decorating your coffee table by placing a silver serving tray with items like candles, a small Christmas ornament and pine cones or a pine tree branch with a ribbon tied around it.

3. Wreaths with a twis

Wreaths are a Christmas classic, but they don’t have to be overwhelming and clunky. When it comes to minimalist decor, a DIY wreath is the best way to go. Use a gold embroidery hoop with fresh leaves and plants to make a wreath to hang on your wall or your door.

The best part about DIY is you can choose any shape and material that you want. If you want to switch it up a little, try using a different shape like this triangle wreath from The Well Co.

Alternatively, use a store-bought wreath as a table centrepiece. All you must do is turn the wreath over and place candles in the centre.

4. Cozy Candles

Decorate your mantelpiece with a mix of pine branches and with candles with gold candle holders. Another simple but beautiful decoration is to have white candles in milk jars. For a classic look, wrap the jars in twine or gold string.

Keep it simple, easy to clean up, and enjoy the festivities the minimalist way!
