Know the Key Points That Outline the Prince 2® Framework

PRINCE is the abbreviation for Projects in Controlled Environments. It was first invented in the UK as a step by the Government to try out new methodologies for project management. However, it soon gained vast popularity across the globe owing to its good results. AXELOS is the authority figure behind the PRINCE framework. This means that when you get the PRINCE 2 certification, it is the accreditation from AXELOS that will gain you recognition in any part of the world, wherever an organization is searching for PRINCE 2® experts to be hired. So gear yourself up, as we will take a deep dive into the key points of the PRINCE 2® framework in this article!

1.     Your Project Should Always Have a Business Justification –

Starting from the initial steps to the end results, according to the guidelines mentioned in the PRINCE2® foundation and practitioner course, every step of the project must always have a justification. There must be a factor of accountability present where the upper management must keep a check on where there is a good return on investment. Not only that, the risks of the object must be controlled, and the benefits must outweigh the setbacks of the project.

2.     Everyone Must Be Aware of Their Roles and Responsibilities –

An important aspect of the PRINCE 2® methodology is that every team member must be thoroughly aware of their roles. Not only that, but everyone must also know their responsibilities as a part of a team. This is in order to ensure that there are a few setbacks, confusion, and drastic delays as possible in the follow-up meetings. It is a common scenario in meetings to hear that “I thought Mr.X was responsible to take care of this task.” The PRINCE 2® certified project manager is responsible to look out for these scenarios.

3.     The Team Members Must Have a Controlled Focus but With aLittle Room for Improvisation –

If you are working in a PRINCE 2® environment, you are expected to focus your full attention on meeting the requirements to achieve the end goal. But at the same time, you must maintain the quality of your work to the highest standard. However, the prince 2 methodology also leaves space for improvisation according to your specific work area-related requirements. If you are adopting the method, you must first identify which areas can be improvised in the methodology.

4.     The Team Must Always Keep on Evolving –

The PRINCE 2® methodology mentions a controlled environment, meaning that there must be a “lessons learned” log maintained by the team. This ensures that mistakes are avoided as much as possible. There must also be retrospective meetings where each member of the team gets to reflect on their overall performance.

Final Word

The PRINCE 2® methodology has different levels of qualification courses. This includes the PRINCE 2® Foundation course, the second one is the practitioner course. Make sure that you choose one according to your qualifications!
