A short chronology of how a technology career led to a holding company with interests in steel, construction and one of Yerevan’s best-known landmarks.
YEREVAN, Armenia – Grigor Ter-Ghazaryan’s business story is easier to follow in order. Here are the main milestones, drawn from public reporting on the group and its projects.
- Early career. Ter-Ghazaryan works in technology and business development, including with Xalt LLC and Xter.net, an Armenian internet provider. Later work extends into regional consulting and development projects.
- 2016. He becomes connected to the Seaside Startup Summit, an event that brings founders, mentors, investors and speakers from many countries together with Armenian startups.
- 2022. He founds GTB Holdings, a group that goes on to operate in steel production, construction, real estate development and civic projects.
- GTB Steel. The reinforcing bar plant is first planned for Yeraskh, near the border. Security risks force a reset, and the operation moves to Ararat.
- 2025. GTB Development wins a tender connected to the reconstruction of the Cascade Complex in Yerevan, whose upper section has stood unfinished for decades.
- Cultural partnership. GTB Development becomes the main partner of the Armenian State Symphony Orchestra.
Where things stand now: GTB Holdings works through GTB Steel, GTB Tower, GTB Development, GTB Anhaght, GTB Proshyan and GTB Construction, also known as GTBuild, plus the GTB Cascade project. GTB Steel produces A500C rebar, reports annual capacity of about 112,800 tons and plans to reach 225,600 tons within three years. The plant and its related companies employ more than 3,000 people and already generate approximately $150 million in annual revenue. Laid out this way, the sequence shows something a single headline tends to miss. The startup involvement came first and has continued throughout. The industrial and civic projects followed in a compressed period, most of them within roughly four years of the holding company’s founding.
Ter-Ghazaryan has described his startup work in terms of the wider economy. “I think that Armenia’s economic future depends not only on established companies but also on the steady emergence of new ones,” he says.
A fuller account of the path taken by the founder of GTB Holdings was published by Yahoo Finance and covers the steel, construction and cultural sides of the group in more detail.
