Augmented Reality: A Brief History Into AR Production

Do you ever play that game on your phone where you have to find the virtual monster in the real world? Or watch a movie and see an advert for a product that magically pops up on the screen? If you’ve answered yes to any of these, then you have experienced augmented reality. Augmented reality is simply defined as a technology that combines or augments real-world objects with digital information. But AR production has come a long way from its humble beginnings. Let’s take a look at its history!

What Is Augmented Reality?

Augmented reality (AR) is a technology that allows users to personalise their video production experience by overlaying computer-generated images on top of real-world footage. This can be done in real-time or post-production, depending on the equipment and software used. AR has been used in a variety of applications, including gaming, entertainment, education, and marketing. In recent years, the use of AR has exploded with the introduction of new platforms such as Pokémon GO and Snapchat. As a result, AR is now one of the most talked-about technologies in the world.

When And How Was The First Approach To Augmented Reality Made?

The first approach to Augmented Reality was made in 1968 by a video production company Melbourne, which created a head-mounted display system that was capable of overlaying computer-generated imagery in the real world. This system was used for military training purposes, but it was not until the early 1990s that the technology began to be used for commercial and consumer applications. One of the earliest examples of this was the Virtual Boy, a gaming console released by Nintendo in 1995.

The Virtual Boy was not a true Augmented Reality system, as it did not superimpose graphics onto the real world. However, it did give users the illusion of 3D graphics by using two different images, one for each eye. While the Virtual Boy was not a commercial success, it did pave the way for future AR gaming systems like the Nintendo 3DS and Sony’s PlayStation Vita.

When And How Did Augmented Reality Get Its Mainstream Introduction?

Augmented reality is not a new technology, but it only recently started to become mainstream. The first instance of AR being used for entertainment was in 1984 when a personalised video was made for the band Yes’ song “Owner of a Lonely Heart.” The video featured footage of the band members superimposed over a live-action background. In 1992, the company Teleimmersion created an AR system that could be used to view three-dimensional objects in real-time. However, it wasn’t until 2009 that AR began to gain traction with consumers.

That year, the iPhone 3GS was released with a built-in compass, allowing developers to create apps that used the device’s orientation to provide an AR experience. In 2010, Google released its first AR app, Google Goggles, which allowed users to point their phone’s camera at an object and receive information about it. In 2012, Pokémon Go was released, giving millions of people their first taste of augmented reality. Since then, AR has continued to grow in popularity, with new applications being developed every day.

How Has Snapchat Been Monumental In Augmented Reality’s History?

Snapchat has been a major player in augmented reality’s history. The popular photo and video sharing app was one of the first to offer augmented reality filters, and it continues to be a leader in the field. In 2018, Snapchat launched Lens Studio, an augmented reality production studio that allows anyone to create their own AR filters. This move helped to democratize augmented reality, making it more accessible to a wider range of people. In addition, Snapchat’s popular Lenses feature has inspired other companies to develop their own AR products. For example, Facebook released its own AR filters for Messenger in 2019. It’s clear that Snapchat has had a significant impact on augmented reality, and it looks poised to continue shaping the future of this technology.

Where Can We Now See Augmented Reality At Its Current State Of Play?

Augmented reality is still in its early developmental stages, there are already a number of firms and content creators who have started to produce content for augmented reality production. One such example is Personal View, which has created a range of personalised videos which can be viewed through an augmented reality headset. This content is designed to give users a more immersive experience and allows them to see the world from a different perspective. As the technology continues to develop, it is likely that we will see even more examples of businesses and content creators utilising augmented reality in new and innovative ways.

What Is The Future Of Augmented Reality & What Does Future Look Like With Advancement In Augmented Reality?

There’s no doubt that augmented reality is one of the hottest topics in tech right now. This has led to some amazing applications in fields like gaming, education, and even medicine. But what does the future hold for augmented reality?

The future looks promising for augmented reality with many potential applications on the horizon. This is already starting to become a reality with apps like https://creativa.com.au/, and we can only imagine what other possibilities will be created in the future. AR can be used for educational purposes to provide students with more interactive and engaging learning experiences. It can also be used for training simulations to provide a more realistic environment for people to learn new skills. Additionally, AR has great potential in the gaming industry to create more immersive gaming experiences.

Of course, these are just a few examples of what augmented reality might be used for in the future. As technology continues to evolve, we can only imagine what new and exciting possibilities will be created. So strap on your AR headset and get ready for an amazing ride into the future!

Conclusion

Augmented Reality has continued to evolve and grow in popularity in recent years. Many major brands have begun incorporating it into their marketing strategies, and we can now see AR being used in a wide range of contexts including retail, education, healthcare, travel, manufacturing, etc. While there are still some limitations to what current AR technology can achieve, it is clear that this exciting field has tremendous potential for further growth and innovation in years to come
